Boost Your Body Confidence When Swimming

Banish body confidence issues and feel more comfortable in your own skin, with our tips for a happier, more confident you.

Feeling self-conscious in your swimwear? Here’s how to build your body confidence, feel great and focus on the positive.

Celebrate your body for what it’s capable of
Praise your body for what it can do, not how it looks. Feeling fit, strong and physically capable is something to shout about. Just swum your best lap time ever? Your body rocks! Take a moment to appreciate it and give it the credit it deserves.

 Make exercise a pleasure
Find an exercise class or hobby that you love and you’ll find you make room for it in your busy schedule. In the pool, there’s plenty to choose from, depending on your experience and level of ability; swimming, aqua Zumba™ and aqua aerobics are perfect for toning up and getting fit. Do them on your own, or drag a friend along – it’s a great way to boost endorphin levels, meet new people and improve your body confidence.

Find time once a day to give yourself a compliment
Nobody’s perfect. Everyone has flaws, but the trick is to focus on the positives – feeling body confident is more about your state of mind, than you might think. So write down what’s great about yourself and your body, ignoring the negatives, and find time to recognise the positives. Now, share the love and help those around you feel good about themselves, too, by taking the time to compliment your friends.

Feel the fear – and do it anyway
Don’t let how you feel about your body hold you back from doing things that you’ll enjoy. Feel self-conscious about going to a new aqua fitness class? Worried about looking silly or performing the wrong move? Ask yourself whether you’d pay attention if another member of the class made a mistake – chances are you wouldn’t even notice. This will help put it in perspective. Take a deep breath, get in the pool and take part. Every time you face your fear, it gets easier, and as it does, your confidence grows.

Dress for your body shape
Wearing a swimsuit can be daunting, but the key to feeling confident is to focus on what you like most about yourself. Speedo Sculpture’s range of women’s body shaping swimwear caters to all body shapes and sizes. The collection has been designed using bust support, tummy control and clever visual detailing to leave you looking and feeling great. Using exclusive body shaping technology, the swimwear slims and shapes; giving you that extra bit of body confidence both in and out of the pool.
